It’s not hard to imagine the music of Doldrums being suburban white noise in some other version of our world. Something funky to listen to during family war cube night, or for dancing underneath the atmospheric shield. This is the appeal of the artist and his songs, which like “Anomaly” does, builds a dystopic vision by successfully harnessing the awesome power of the digital age. The song’s chorus melody shows the heart that lay inside dormant (and perhaps unjustly forgotten) New Age pop like Ace of Base, but here, it hums with the violent energy of noise music, like anything with moving parts does a week before it collapses.
Lesser Evil is out February 26th on Arbutus.
