NYC beatsmith MATTRON returns with SPILLS, another tape of crispy ADD-Dilla instrumentals. It’s a significant step forward, as he’s narrowed down the disparate hip hop influences and samples that were strewn across previous release PERSONALTAPE | PANTS MORGAN MONEY. Say goodbye to the spacey lean references and Houston rap, SPILLS is more focused, sun-kissed and sexy. On SPILLS, the warm crackle ceases to be simply just the noise form the vinyl and begins to feel more like a mark of the artist himself: hot breath on a lover’s ear, stuffy air from a beachside jazz club at night, a feeling that can’t be anything but real hip hop.
