Solar Year write hymns for denominations that don’t exist yet. Their Brotherhood EP had an earnest spirituality that rose from the languid chanting of its three songs like the smell of a musty prayer book. But “Night & Day” is anything but sleepy. It makes the grandiose new-age pop of “Lines” seem absolutely timid by comparison. Whatever’s the object of Solar Year’s devotion, “Night & Day” is its most joyous affirmation from the band, with constellations of screwed-up vocals and airy synths that are as vibrant as stained glass on a summer afternoon.
