[listen] Dan Deacon creates one of the year’s biggest mash-ups

It’s that time of year when the tinsel goes up and the beat DROPS. That is, DJs are putting out their end-of-the-year megamixes, and Dan Deacon‘s issued his first ever contribution to the tradition called Wish Book Volume 1. It’s a mash-up spectacular, but it’s Dan Deacon’s mash-up spectacular. So he’s not trying to turn everything into a hip-hop club banger or lazily compiling every Top 40 track into a monochromic bucket of chum. It’s an experimental mix, so occasionally the acapellas might seem out of time, or the tune you just recognized might get drowned out by a rush of volatile hiss, but it’s Dan Deacon, so it’s still a load of rapturous, hyperactive fun. Just imagine you were listening to this kind of mash-up instead while wearing shutter shades and puking up vodka/Red Bull, and your second year of university becomes slightly cooler.
