[listen] Lower – “But There Has To Be More”

Lower isn’t a band that avoids any topic that might reveal some discomfiting truths. Their previous song “Someone’s Got It In For Me,” was paranoid and angry about a lack of answers, and “But There Has To Be More” veers close to the precipice of an existential crisis. As the pleas for validation get increasingly desperate, the post-hardcore trudges along dutifully beside, like an equally desperate accomplice. But as the song fades out with a bell that rings as dreadfully as a plague cart’s, there’s a sense that the time for answers may have already passed.
