If Jojo were like most former teen idols her age, she’d have completed a brief reality TV run three years ago and have faded into almost complete obscurity, leaving behind little more than a dormant Twitter account. But she’s doing more than just pushing on, she’s thriving; her previous track, the 40-produced “Demonstrate” was a lush, vulnerable, and painfully sexy bit of weirdo R&B. Now we’ve got “I Get By,” a step forward and a step back for the artist. Her fairly boilerplate R&B lyrics and tacked-on hometown shout-outs don’t quite do justice to the instrumental, which zings and snaps with a post-dubstep by way of Tribe Called Quest vibe. Still, it’s the latest step in one hell of a intriguing comeback attempt. Listen below:
