Animal Collective have dropped the single for their upcoming, inevitably polarizing album Centipede Hz and I’m feeling cold about it. I wish I could find a melody in this song that particularly grabs me, aside from the “le le le le go!” central hook, which is the blandest kind of weird. Thankfully, Avey Tare’s guttural screams return in full form, ending the song on a crashing high note of ecstatic static catharsis. I expect it to sit better in the context of the full album, but so far this Centipede sort of HURTS.
Centipede Hz is out on September 4 via Domino.
