The xx are making a play for your most played list again with “Angels,” their gorgeous first single taken from Coexist, out September 11th on Young Turks. Although Romy Croft’s vocals may sound like a lovesick whimper, “Angels” is a thunderous return for the band, and an apt choice for the first single. The furtive guitar lines and subdued percussion rattle around like the memories that mull around your brain at 3AM, keeping you up with breathless anticipation of when you’ll see them again next. It’s more than just a triumphant comeback, it’s the first great baby-making song of the year. If any mutual friends of the xx and R. Kelly are reading this, do the world a favor and introduce them to each other.
