Dirty Projectors – “Dance For You”
In order to enjoy the new Dirty Projectors song “Dance For You,” you need to have an appreciation for a few things. Clapping (easy, everyone claps, even really stupid babies), indie rock (look where you are) and songs that quickly change shape like undiscovered deep sea amoebas. Everything in order? Good.
David Byrne/St. Vincent – “Love This Giant”
Iconic art-rockers St. Vincent and David Byrne have gotten together for the most natural and wish-fulfilling collaboration that’ll make you say “Oh my God!” and “Of course they are!” simultaneously, turning into a jumbled mess of words that leaves you incoherently excited. With idiosyncratic horns bursting and yelps of Byrne and Clark, this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. And thankfully, we get to hear the results.
Azealia Banks – “Aquababe”
Azealia Banks could never quit rap. She sounds too good, number one, also she has too much fun with it, which tracks like “Aquababe” showcase. While the beats have all been remarkable and eclectic, Machinedrum’s downright nutty production stands out as perhaps one of the beats best suited for Banks’ delivery. Full of crazy samples and insanely fast snare-rolls, it grabs your attention by the throat and doesn’t let go.
