Rockers photo exhibition

I attended the opening party of Bob Gruen's "Rockers" photo exhibition at Toronto's Liss Gallery in the heart of Yorkville on Thursday evening.

I interviewed Gruen (hit the Bob Gruen tag at the bottom of this post to read it) a couple of weeks ago when he was in town, and he flew back for the reception and to sign copies of his prints and books that are available at the gallery.

The place was packed with people admiring about 70 of the photographer's most famous shots and enjoying the free-flowing wine and munching on pizza and crudite. I caught up with quite a few people I hadn't seen in a while, and gracious gallery owner Brian Liss introduced me to Gruen's wife, who I had a nice conversation with along with B Girls bassist (and the late Stiv Bators' girlfriend), Cynthia Ross. Their stories were almost as good as the guest of honour's.

You can check out tiny versions of the Gruen photos on display on the Liss Gallery website.

In addition to Gruen's work, there are also some great Beatles photos, Ron Wood paintings and other music-related pieces on display at the gallery that are definitely worth checking out.

"Rockers" runs until Oct. 11. Everyone with an interest in the history of rock 'n' roll should make their way to Yorkville before then to see it.
