Singer/songwriter Bobby Fuller was born 66 years ago.
Fuller was born Robert Gaston Fuller in Baytown, Texas. While growing up, Buddy Holly was his idol, and Fuller began recording his first independent releases in the early 1960s.
In 1964, Fuller and his band The Bobby Fuller Four moved to Los Angeles. They signed a deal with Mustang Records, and their first single, "Let Her Dance," became a hit. But The Bobby Fuller Four are probably best known for their second single, "I Fought The Law," which was later covered by The Clash. The Clash's version of the song is arguably more well-known than the original.
Unfortunately, after "I Fought The Law" made him famous, Fuller was found dead in his car near his home. Although police determined the death was a suicide, there are still people who think Fuller was murdered because the crime scene was not roped off, no fingerprints were taken, and Fuller had wounds all over his body and had been covered in gasoline.
After Fuller's death, his brother Randy Fuller tried to take his place and renamed the band. The band broke up soon afterwards.
