Time Capsule: Oct. 1, 1970

Jimi Hendrix was buried in Greenwood Memorial Park in Renton, Wash., near Seattle, 38 years ago. Miles Davis, Eric Burdon (then of War), Johnny Winter and members of Derek And The Dominoes were in attendance.
Hendrix died on Sept. 18, 1970 in London, England. Hendrix's official cause of death was from asphyxiating on his own vomit, though it's never been fully explained how this happened.
As has been the case with other grave sites of famous musicians like Jim Morrison, concerns later arose the potential of other sites being damaged by those visiting Hendrix's gravesite. This led to the creation of another memorial which is separate from other gravesites, to which Hendrix was moved in 2002. The site is still incomplete and it was to feature a brass statue of Hendrix.
