Playoff beards are one thing, but imagine if you grew one for two years.

That's what Metallica fan Mick Cassidy did. In 2006, Cassidy bet his wife that he would not shave until Metallica released another album. This meant he kept a beard for over two years.

Cassidy documented his beard growth on the internet, taking periodic pictures of it and eventually had 65,000 people following his story. He eventually became so well-known that Metallica frontman James Hetfield said he would shave off Cassidy's beard at the launch party for Death Magnetic, which he did. By the time it was shaved off, Cassidy's beard was 12 inches long.
