The Daily Spin: Matthew Good Band - Underdogs

This record came out when I was in seventh grade. I bought it after hearing two of its singles ("Indestructible" and "Everything Is Automatic"). It was a gamble because at around that time I was getting frustrated with buying albums. The usual process of CD purchases for me around this time went as follows: Hear singles. Like them. Buy album. Listen to album. Dislike it because the rest of the songs on it are subpar. Become frustrated.

Underdogs wasn't like that. I enjoyed every track, and this is still the case when I listen to it now. It's got a snarl that few Canadian albums had at the time. I saw Matt Good play a solo acoustic show at Carleton University's Southam Hall back in 2006, and he played a few tracks from Underdogs. They still sounded great and held up when they were stripped down to nothing. While Underdogs isn't my favourite MGB disc (that's The Audio Of Being), it's definitely one of the better Can-rock and alt.rock albums of the late '90s.
