Welcome to the World of the Less-Heard

Hello all,

This is the beginning of a new writing adventure. After many a year producing reviews and interviews of a specific size and shape, the editorial gloves are now off. Let the world be wary!

There are many questions to be answered regarding the content tof this blog. What it going to cover? How is this eh... diatribe going to be different than other blogs out there? I really don't know for sure. I could be doing an exercise that's comparible to screaming loudly in an empty silo. Or I could touch a nerve. We'll have to see.

Maybe an introduction is in order.

My name is Chris Burland. I've been actively listening to music since I was a early teenager, saving up money from mowing lawns, delivering papers and working at the local gas station. What I did with this cash is to empty out the local record store of some its weekly stock. In retrospect, those purchases were quite hit and miss. For every Todd Rundgren, Guess Who or Earth Wind And Fire album I bought, there were Bob Welch, Queen City Rockers and other equally bad selections. I really had no true musical mentor. My town was in the grip of what I now call "Loogan Rock": Rolling Stones, Styx, Fleetwood Mac, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Heart, Nazareth, Pink Floyd were played ad nauseum. I used to dread going to house parties and hearing the same 30 songs. What I learned early on is that musically I march to a different drummer than most folks out there.

It wasn't much different during my university days with floor parties consisting of the same old same old, until I discovered an oasis...the campus radio station. That steared me onto a off-the-beaten track  that continues to influence my musical tastes today.

Currently, I work for ChartATTACK as the charts editor (that's the guy who compiles the weekly charts for this site) and the photo manager, among other things. So I'm on the tip when it comes to all of the new music on campus radio in Canada.

The short of it is that this blog will be a reflection of my continued musical journey. It'll be both and old stuff, re-released and forgotten gems, local bands from both the past  and the present. It'll be rock n roll, with a touch world music, jazz, hip hop and electronic music...whatever strikes my fancy.

Welcome aboard.
