On Tuesday night I went to the Bovine Sex Club to see
Louis Durand's last show as the frontman for
Maximum RNR.
The whole MRNR posse are friends with CHARTattack so it was a little bit bittersweet to witness. And a little disturbing, especially when guitarist Keith Carman gave Louis a full open-mouth goodbye kiss on stage.
Pockets of Louis' weird friends from around the province made the trip into town for the show, too. They joined what appeared to be a bus tour of middle-aged Germans scarfing down free shots of Jager, along with the likes of Cone from Sum 41, Ian D'sa from Billy Talent, the Saigon Hookers dudes (who also played) and a bunch of other local punk and stoner rockers.
There's no telling what Louis will get up to next. He was a feature actor in the Frenglish comedy
Greg & Gentillon a couple years ago, and will be making a spectacle of himself as part of the
ChartAttack Hack Hockey Club when they play at the 11th annual
Hockey Summit Of The Arts on April 10-12. Beyond that... who knows?
MRNR will soldier on. Apparently the second Louis hung up his microphone, enthusiastic sorts began jockeying to fill the lead singing spot, including some proud Canadian punk rock legends. We'll post something when we hear more.
