Black Hat Brigade: CMW '09 Special

We know that only the strongest survive to party late into an evening, so CHARTattack is pleased to know the uncompromising math-noise fury of Brampton/Toronto rockers Black Hat Brigade will close our Friday night Canadian Music Week showcase at the Horseshoe Tavern.

Guitarist Bryan Ward was kind enough to answer some of our silly questions via email.

CHARTattack: So, you're about to play the big industry event that is Canadian Music Week. What's the most shameless thing you've ever done to promote your band?
Bryan Ward: Nothing too shameless. We like handing out sampler EPs. That's how things picked up for us last year. We're also taking donations for our new EP (donations over $5 and we'll thank you in the liner notes! Check the MySpace and our shows for details).

What's the hardest part about being an up-and-coming band?
Getting on the right shows. Making good connections with like-minded bands. Day jobs.

How important is it for your band members to circulate and flirt with the audience before or after the show?
We're pretty good at floating about the room. No wallflowers in this group.

Have you ever stolen from someone else's rider? If so, who was it and what did you take?
We ain't no thieves!!! As long as there's enough complimentary booze to sustain a nice collective glow, we've got no complaints.

No grades yet... but we're underachievers with hearts of gold.

Have you done anything new or interesting this week?
I cut my own hair.
