Not content to let bandmate Emily Haines one-up them in productivity, Metric bassist Joshua Winstead and drummer Joules Scott-Key have turned their long-standing musical relationship into a new band, Bang Lime. The ambiguously named duo get down and dirty together on their gritty, new wave rock-infused debut disc, Best Friends In Love.

"My girlfriend used to call me and Joules best friends in love, because we'd known each other for so long," says reinvented singer/guitarist Winstead. "It was her teasing us — it was definitely a joke about how long we've hung out together."

The Bang Lime name itself emerged as a joke shared between the pair.

"I was just taking words out of a hat to make them into a weird poem," Winstead explains. "Joules kept laughing about it. Whenever we'd play crazy music together, he'd call it 'going bang lime.'"

Comedy aside, Winstead and Scott Key are all business when it comes to their songs. Best Friends In Love sees the duo searching for a sound that existed when musicmaking was more about ability than saleability.

"Celebrity, before, used to be somebody that was being celebrated because of their talent," Winstead muses. "We really looked back into the late '60s and '70s when people were guitar heroes and drum heroes."
