The Cansecos: Dr. Party And Mr. Vibe

The Cansecos

"People want to party. What more can you say?"

Gareth Jones of The Cansecos is talking about the current trend of bands playing live dance music. Hearing the relaxed synth-and-sample pop on the Toronto duo's Juices! album, you'd be disinclined to lump them in with the likes of Justice or The Carps. But Jones insists that his band took on a different
personality on their first cross-Canada tour in November.

"On record we're more like stoners, I guess. It's like head music. But we play party live."

The proof is in the premix. The band's website
features a free download of a full disco remix album called Juiced! which they decided to release online before they dropped Juices! on Nov. 20. If the proper album is head music, Juiced! is definitely for the body.

"It just happened," explains Jones, "and we were like, ‘Well this is fucking awesome and is more fun to listen to than the actual record. Let's throw it up on the website.'"

His partner, Bill Halliday, is quick to clarify that both sides of The Cansecos are equal but different.

"We don't write the way most bands would write, where you sit together in a room and flesh out a song. It's more headphones... late at night trying to fuss with things until it sounds right. I like it both ways."
