The merits of NXNE are up for debate, but what isn't are the great new Canada-based bands and musicians that play every year. We've assembled a series of mini-profiles of some smaller acts you should check out.
ZONES is music for blasting at oasis mirages: dubby and textural while operating on interdimensional concepts of substance. They play The Great Hall tonight at 9PM with Tim Hecker, Fresh Snow, and White Poppy.
What were you doing before you started answering these questions?
On the road, just got back from playing in Ottawa and Montreal.
How should we prepare for your NXNE show?
Firstly call in sick to work. Then relax in a park with friends. Top it off with eating a huge delicious meal and head over to the Great Hall.
What present should a fan bring for you to the gig to show their appreciation?
If you can manage to sneak some snacks into the Great Hall, we at ZONES Corp. Industries fully endorse all snacking investments.
What's your favourite show you've ever played?
The Mugshot's Courtyard we just played last night in Ottawa was real beautiful. We've done a couple house parties that have been a huge right on.
Who are you most excited to see at NXNE and why?
Oneohtrix Point Never probably because that dude rules.
What's your favourite summer activity?
Daytime park lurks or beaching out with some friends and snacks.
Are you working on any new music? Describe its sound using a food analogy.
Glazed fruits and a glistening bowl of jello with whipped topping - poolside.
What artist perk do you wish NXNE gave out?
Snacks / Burritos.
Post a YouTube video that's the opposite of your band.
