Deer Tick's "Piece By Piece, Frame By Frame"
Providence, R.I.'s Deer Tick recorded their third album, The Black Dirt Sessions, during the same time as 2009's Born On Flag Day at New York's Black Dirt Studios. The disc came out in June.
"Piece By Piece, Frame By Frame" takes singer/guitarist John McCauley's gritty voice and folk guitar and places them against gentle piano. That kind of juxtaposition would be jarring if it wasn't for the album's subjects, which range from the existence of God to death. The essence of Deer Tick is that there's beauty in everything gritty.
