Lil Ugly Mane might not be rapping anymore, but if Three Sided Tape Volume One is any indication, he's sitting on a lot of stuff. The PWYC release Three Sided Tape Volume One collects thirty two unreleased songs and instrumentals made between 2008-2011. Understandably, not all of it has the demonic Memphis sound that made Mista Thug Isolation one of 2012's most unique (and problematic) releases. In fact, it's pretty all over the place. There's Dilla inspired smoothness, D&B, funk, even a track of folktronic haze. If Ugly Mane really is “on life support,” hopefully it's because the artist is finding a new creative direction. Judging from this tape, he has many promising ones to choose from.
