Robert Pollard's latest musical project is a trio called Boston Spaceships, who will release their Brown Submarine debut on Sept. 9 via Pollard's Guided By Voices, Inc. label.
The frontman's songs are brought to life by John Moen (The Decemberists, Perhapst) and Chris Slusarenko (Guided By Voices, The Takeovers), who recorded Brown Submarine in Portland, Ore. and Kent, Ohio in May. The band will be augmented by bassist Jason Narducy and guitarist Tommy Keene when they embark on their first U.S. tour in September. "Go For The Exit" can be previewed on Boston Spaceships' MySpace page.
Pollard, the longtime leader of Guided By Voices, released his Robert Pollard Is Off To Business solo album on June 2. Merge Records released Standard Gargoyle Decisions and Coast To Coast Carpet Of Love last October, and From A Compound Eye and Normal Happiness 12 months before that. The Silverfish Trivia mini LP was issued in April 2007. Three Pollard side projects — Psycho And The Birds, The Takeovers and The Keene Brothers — released albums in May 2006.
Fantagraphics will publish Pollard's coffee table art book, Town Of Mirrors: The Reassembled Imagery Of Robert Pollard, on Aug. 6.
