Brian Welch Gets Saved
Tuesday July 15, 2008 @ 05:00 PM

Brian
Brian "Head" Welch

Brian "Head" Welch left Korn, quit drugs and found God three years ago. How has that affected the way he makes music? Find out when he releases Save Me From Myself through his Driven Music Group label on Sept. 9.

"I literally poured everything I had into Save Me From Myself, and I know it's gonna inspire a lot of people," says Welch. "It's been a long time since I've connected with people musically, and now that the wounds have healed from my past addictions, I'm ready to feel the magic again."

Head produced Save Me From Myself, which was recorded off and on for the past two years at Fortitude Studios in Phoenix, Ariz. It was mixed by Ralph Patlan and Bob Clearmountain (Bruce Springsteen, Bryan Adams). Bassists Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, David Bowie) and Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle) and drummer Josh Freese (A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails) played on the record, which may lead some non-believers to exclaim, "Save me from born-again nu-metal retreads."

"Flush" is the album's first single and video, and Welch calls it the "perfect way" for him to re-enter the music world. "It's basically about flushing all the crap in life down the toilet and starting out fresh — exactly what I've been doing for the last few years," he says of his past vices.

Two versions of "Flush" can be heard on Welch's MySpace page.

Shortly after leaving Korn after almost 12 years and six albums, Welch opened an orphanage in India called Head Home. He's also undertaken a number of charitable and philanthropic projects in the U.S.

Welch wrote an autobiography titled Save Me From Myself: How I Found God, Quit Korn, Kicked Drugs, And Lived To Tell My Story that has sold more than 70,000 copies since it was published by HarperCollins last July. Washed By Blood: Lessons From My Time With Korn And My Journey To Christ, an edited paperback version without some of the profanity and graphic details found in the original, came out last month along with a paperback edition of Save Me From Myself.

Here are the songs on Save Me From Myself:

  • "L.O.V.E."
  • "Flush"
  • "Loyalty"
  • "Re-Bel"
  • "Home"
  • "Save Me From Myself"
  • "Die Religion Die"
  • "Adonai"
  • "Money"
  • "Shake"
  • "Washed By Blood"
