Charty Chart Chat: Islands Sneak Up On Constantines Wednesday May 21, 2008 @ 06:30 PM By: ChartAttack.com Staff
Urban Surf Kings - Bang Howdy Partner |
Constantines' Kensington Heights remains the leader of the national campus radio top 50 chart, but there's a potential throne usurper as Islands' Arm's Way rises seven places to #2. Islands are no stranger to the #1 spot. Their last album, Return To The Sea, sat there for a total of seven weeks during the spring of 2006.
The self-titled release by Flight Of The Conchords moves up five spots to #3, with Crystal Castles' eponymous release dropping two spots to #4. Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds' Dig, Lazarus Dig!!! slips a notch to #5, while The Black Keys' Attack & Release tumbles three places to #6. Duchess Says' Anthologie Des 3 Perchoirs remains at #7, with Tokyo Police Club's Elephant Shell directly below it after dropping two spots. Teenage Head With Marky Ramone improves by three positions to #9. M83's Saturdays=Youth rounds out the top 10 after jumping that many positions.
This week's Chart Sizzler Award goes to a bit of an underdog, as Urban Surf Kings' Bang Howdy Partner beats out perennial Canadian campus radio favourite Young And Sexy for the top debut. Bang Howdy Partner hits the chart at #17, while Young And Sexy's Arc arrives at #20. Another Mint band, The Ramblin' Ambassadors, debut at #26 with Vista Cruiser Country Squire. Other new entries include El Perro Del Mar's From The Valley To The Stars at #28 and Boris' Smile at #38. Violet Archers' Sunshine At Night — featuring former Rheostatic Tim Vesely supported by members of Weeping Tile, Wayne Omaha and Great Aunt Ida — comes in at #44.
There were changes at #1 on three of the five specialty charts. DL Incognito's A Captured Moment In Time reclaims #1 on the Hip-Hop top 10 after first holding that position two weeks ago. Rabnett 5's Leopardism moves up three places to grab top spot on the Jazz/Blues chart, while the Putumayo Presents: African Party compilation returns to the World/Folk chart at #1 after a week's absence. Crystal Castles remains atop the Electronic chart for an eighth straight week while Testament's The Formation Of A Damnation stays at #1 on Metal/Punk for a second week.
