Mudhoney And Sub Pop Celebrate 20 Years With New And Old Music

Mudhoney have made it through 20 years and outlived many of their grunge-era contemporaries, so it's probably with good reason that the Seattle band have named their new album The Lucky Ones.

The group's eighth studio effort will be released by Sub Pop on May 20. The raw follow-up to 2006's Under A Billion Suns was recorded (overdubs and all) in three-and-a-half days with artist/producer and previous collaborator Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, Sufjan Stevens).

"We decided that since everything came together so serendipitously that we shouldn't fuck with it, and these 11 songs should be the album," says singer/guitarist Mark Arm, who's joined in the group by drummer Dan Peters, guitarist Steve Turner and bassist Guy Maddison.

To commemorate both the label and the rockin' quartet's 20th anniversaries, Sub Pop will also issue a two-disc deluxe edition of Mudhoney's Superfuzz Bigmuff debut EP on May 20. The new version features a remastered copy of the original EP along with singles and demos on the first disc, and live recordings from 1988 made in Berlin, Germany and at Santa Barbara, Calif. radio station KCSB on the second.

Mudhoney have U.S. and European shows lined up through the spring and summer, but no Canadian dates as of yet.
