"It feels really, really good to be part of all this," Vancouver singer/songwriter Elise Estrada told ChartAttack just minutes after winning the award for best new group or solo artist in the dance/urban/rhythmic category at the recent Canadian Radio Music Awards.
"I was that little girl brushing her hair and singing in front of the mirror, and to have all this happen so fast is an amazing thing. I know how many talented people there really are, and to be doing what I'm doing, I feel very lucky. I'm blessed."
The 20 year old made a breakthrough with her debut single "Insatiable," which made its mark all over Canadian radio. It's no wonder she took home the CRMA, which was still so new at the time of our interview that she hadn't even spoken with her family to tell them the news.
"They're going to be very happy," says 2004's Miss Vancouver Princess. "They've been very supportive throughout the years, so to have all this happen, it's going to be good."
While 2007 was huge for the Philippines-born Estrada, this year should be even bigger with the May release of her six-song self-titled debut and more singles. While success seems to have come quickly, she's been singing, modeling and performing since she was four and starred on the Pinoy Pop Superstar television series in Asia. Estrada has no intent of stopping any time soon, and has other interests to pursue after taking the Canadian pop scene by storm.
"I can definitely see myself acting," she says. "It's something I enjoy.
"I actually moved to L.A. for a while and got a lot of acting experience, so it's something I want to try out in the future. I just got an offer for a feature film, and we're working on that."
