The Apples In Stereo will release their long-awaited B-sides and rarities compilation, Electronic Projects For Musicians, on April 1 through Yep Roc's Elijah Wood-owned Simian Records imprint.
The record, which will also be released as a limited edition vinyl LP, takes its moniker from a recording manual by session musician Craig Anderton. It features 14 B-sides and rarities recorded throughout the band's career from 1995 to 2007, including three previously unreleased tracks. One of those, "Stephen Stephen," was recorded for and performed on The Colbert Report in December 2006 as part of a guitar solo contest between host Stephen Colbert and The Decemberists guitarist Chris Funk.
Electronic Projects For Musicians can be streamed in its entirety on the Yep Roc website.
The Apples In Stereo formed in 1992 and released two EPs before dropping their Fun Trick Noisemaker debut LP in 1995. Five more studio albums followed, the latest of which was last year's New Magnetic Wonder. The band centred around vocalist/guitarist Robert Schneider and drummer Hilarie Sidney until she left in 2006 to spend more time with her own band, The High Water Marks. The couple divorced in 2004.
Here are the tracks on Electronic Projects For Musicians:
- "Shine (In Your Mind)"
