The Details Benefit From Lipstick Jungle

WINNIPEG — Winnipeg indie pop outfit The Details are charting new territory — from South By Southwest to NBC.

A track from the band's 2007 full-length debut, Draw A Distance. Draw A Border, will be featured on the glossy new NBC hit Lipstick Jungle on Thursday night. Thanks to a friendship the band have maintained with a network mover-and-shaker since a fortunate meeting back in October 2006, "A National Anthem" will suddenly be heard by millions of potential new fans.

"It's definitely a new venue for us," guitarist Sean Vidal says with a laugh. "It's exciting."

Vidal, Jon Plett (vocals), Keli Martin (bass) and Shaun Gibson (drums) will also make their inaugural trek to Austin, Texas for South By Southwest. The band are slated to strut their stuff alongside fellow Canadian indie luminaries Parkas, Sylvie, Birds Of Wales, Beasts And Superbeasts and Marianas Trench on March 12.

"Everyone who talks about South By Southwest talks about it like it's a magical heaven," Vidal says. "We're playing a Canadian showcase, which is really cool. We're really excited."

The Details are breaking more new ground in the U.S. as well. Draw A Distance. Draw A Border has been steadily climbing the CMJ Top 200 campus radio chart there since debuting at #107.

"We just got the new numbers in an hour ago, and we've gone from 107 to 75," Vidal says. "It was kind of unexpected, since we'd never done any promotion in the States before."

Before The Details head to SXSW, they'll mine more familiar territory at Canadian Music Week. When the quartet first played the festival last year, they were a new, relatively unknown band with only their live show to fall back on. This year, The Details are armed with a sparkling full-length and are set to rock Rancho Relaxo on March 6.
