 Alanis Morissette |
Alanis Morissette will be inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall Of Fame and be presented with a lifetime achievement award during the Canadian Radio Music Awards luncheon at Toronto's Fairmont Royal York Hotel on March 7 as part of Canadian Music Week.
The Ottawa native broke into show business when she was 12 and appeared in five episodes of the children's show, You Can't Do That On Television. Her Alanis debut album was released in Canada in 1991 and was certified platinum. Now Is The Time followed a year later and ended the first phase of her career.
Morissette became a global star following the 1995 release of her Maverick debut, Jagged Little Pill, which went on to sell more than 30 million copies around the world and spawned six hit singles. The sales chart-topping Former Infatuation Junkie followed in 1998, and an MTV Unplugged compilation came out a year later.
The singer/songwriter released Under Rug Swept in 2002 and So-Called Chaos in 2004, and marked the 10th anniversary of Jagged Little Pill's release with an acoustic version of the album. The Collection CD and DVD came out in 2005 and featured her numerous hits, including "Thank You," "Ironic," "You Learn," You Oughta Know," "Hands Clean" and "Hand In Pocket."
Morissette has won 12 Juno Awards and seven Grammys, and was honoured by The Friends Of The United Nations with the Global Tolerance Award in 2001.
The 33-year-old hosted the 2004 Junos and has dabbled in acting. She's appeared in director Kevin Smith's Dogma and Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, guest-starred as a lesbian for a three-episode arc on the plastic surgery drama Nip/Tuck last season, and has appeared in episodes of Sex And The City, American Dreams, Degrassi: The Next Generation and Lovespring International. She recently signed on to star in the movie adaptation of sci-fi novelist Philip K. Dick's semi-autobiographical novel, Radio Free Albemuth.
Morissette is working on her next album with producer Guy Sigsworth. It's expected to be called Flavors Of Entanglement and be out next year.
