Celine Dion the Metal Goddess? Maybe. According to Australia's Sunday Telegraph, the French-Canadian pop diva likes to get into some of that Thunder From Down Under high voltage, singing AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" during her soundchecks.
"I like hard rock and, if I'm doing stadiums, I want the engineers to crank the sound system up high with rock 'n' roll, heavy metal music — it helps me to get the adrenalin rushing,'' Dion said.
"I've been a big fan of AC/DC for about 15 years or 20 years — the sound guys introduced me to them.''
Before you go metal thrashing mad, think about it, this kind of makes sense. Despite producing pop poopy, you have to admit, the girl's got pipes. If they went vocal for vocal, she could easily take human air raid siren Bruce Dickinson. She's definitely got the height to oust Ronnie James Dio. Better than the Metal God Rob Halford? That's a stretch, but she's certainly superior to Udo Dirkschneider (Accept? "Balls To The Wall"? C'mon!). Add a few guitars, some big-ass drums, throw some horns, maybe a few goats and Celine might just be metal. Well, at least slightly rock. This, according to what she told the Telegraph, is the direction she's taken on her new album, Taking Chances.
"I had such a good time recording the album and I listened to it and it is definitely more rock, more edgy and deeper, stronger,'' Dion said.
Well, she might just be warming up to "Thunderstruck" and not fully upping the irons yet, but AC/DC is like a gateway drug to bigger and heavier things, so we might just see Dion ride the lighting in the near future. And really, isn't that every metalhead's dream?
