Pink Floyd haven't released anything new in nearly 15 years, but their The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn debut will be reissued by EMI as a special three-disc 40th anniversary package on Aug. 28.
According to the band's official website, the set will include one disc featuring the entire album in a stereo version and a second disc with the mono version. Both have been newly remastered by James Guthrie.
Perhaps the biggest coup for fans is that the third disc will contain some extremely rare material and bonus tracks. All of the Pink Floyd singles and their B-sides from 1967 will be featured, including "Arnold Layne," "See Emily Play," "Apples And Oranges," "Paintbox" and "Candy And A Current Bun."
The third disc will also feature the second take of "Interstellar Overdrive" from the original recording sessions. The song was previously only available on a French EP. There will also be a 1967 stereo version of "Apples And Oranges."
The package will feature a design by Storm Thorgerson, who has had a long association with the band, as well as a 12-page reproduction of original lead singer and guitarist Syd Barrett's notebook.
Pink Floyd reunited for a special one-off performance as part of Live 8 in 2005 at London's Hyde Park. The surviving members of the group also recently paid tribute to Barrett in London as part of the "Madcap's Last Laugh" concert, with bassist Roger Waters and guitarist David Gilmour performing separate tributes.
Gilmour will release a live two-DVD set of his 2006 world tour titled Remember That Night in September. It will include Floyd hits as well as songs from Gilmour's last studio album, On An Island.
