Absolutely Free rarely repeat themselves. Whether they're playing a Jewish Community Centre swimalong or soundtracking the universe or paying tribute to the great NFB artist Norman McLaren, the Toronto three-piece craft their live shows as a here-in-this-space analogue to their hypnotizing, psychedelic krautrock.
So the fact that it's taken this long for the band to play a Toronto release show for their stunning self-titled debut (released back in October) isn't because they're lazy - they were just coming up with something unique enough to befit their hometown.
Drummer Moshe Rozenberg gives a play-by-play preview:
"U.S. Girls is opening; We're collaborating with Mike Haliechuk (Fucked Up), Joseph Shabason (DIANA) & Marcel Ramagnano to perform an even longer version of 'Spiral Jetty' (our album closer); Installation/Multimedia artist Dan Thornhill has created an interactive program/projection that will run throughout the night; The stage will be a recreation/installation of our album cover; The bartender's concocted some Absolutely Free cocktails ('Absolut-ly Freeze' & 'Spiral Jet-tea') & more fun!"
Oh, and hey, we have a pair of tickets to give away!
