Imagine honing your craft for over a decade before gaining the confidence in yourself to play it for other people. Jillian Banks, or BANKS as you may know her by, did just that. It seems that all those years of waiting paid off. She emerged with her fully formed pop-tinged R&B, dark and brooding like a snake trailing behind you in a bush. On her upcoming record she twists things in a new direction. Lead single "Fuck With Myself" sounds like how a body contorting looks.
As she's about to release her sophomore album The Altar, BANKS sat down with Chart Attack to discuss the creative process behind the record and everything that shaped her into the person she is today. Empowering herself and her listeners is an important part of that process. Industry and societal pressures can dictate how an artist acts, thinks and feels, and she tells us how she deals with that. Most importantly, how does BANKS herself imagine what her music looks like?
