Ask A Band: Best Coast gives advice on dealing with misogyny

Mar 16, 2016
Life is complicated and full of tough questions. We seek answers from people we respect, so who better to turn to than your favourite artists?

Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast is extremely outspoken about sexism in the music industry. Sadly, we live in a world where women are not treated as equals and most powerful men can't wrap their head around that. She experiences it in her daily life: judged for her outfits, for how much she smiles on stage. She's even been stopped at her own show by security who thinks she's a groupie. But thankfully she, along with many other badass women, are making waves in the industry and kicking out the creeps. Bye bye!

That "be vocal and don't make concessions" attitude spreads to this edition of Ask A Band, where Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno of Best Coast throw down some valuable life advice. Have a boyfriend that says misogynistic things? There's advice for that. Don't know what to do this weekend with your date? There's advice for that. How about not being comfortable in your own skin? They cover that and more.

Best Coast's California Nights is out now on Harvest Records.
