Watch The Bicycles perform “Goldeneye” live at Sonic Boom for Record Store Day 2014

Apr 30, 2014
We're reliving Record Store Day 2014 with live videos of all the great bands that graced Sonic Boom's stage for our beer-fuelled showcase.

Before they hit the stage for their afternoon set, our Record Store Day master of ceremonies Branko Scekic of Dinosaur Bones described The Bicycles as a "Toronto staple." That's definitely true, though their maturation into elder statesmen hasn't sacrificed much of their essential indie pop breeziness. Take this song, "Goldeneye," which asks a question many of the same generation have likely pondered amidst a marathon "slappers only" sesh: "is 32 too old to throw your day away?" Yes, it's about the video game, and yes there are "oohs" and "aahs," and yes it's simultaneously wistful and playful. Watch it between daydreams of Oddjob.

Thank you to Sonic Boom for having us, Pistonhead Lager for bringing that delicious beer, and our performers for their great music. Stay tuned for more videos from Record Store Day every day this week.
