| Are the Maritimes the new Montreal? An unusual proportion of today's up-and-coming artists seem to be coming from New Brunswick, P.E.I. and Nova Scotia. With only one full-length disc to her credit, this folky chanteuse is already touring with the likes of Hayden and The Weakerthans. |
| Comment:Grant had full band in tow on this night, but she probably didn't need them. (Her bassist was wearing the same sweater as me, which was a little disconcerting). She seems the type that could quiet a bar with just an acoustic guitar. She can sing, she's got the material, she can work a crowd — now she just needs to find that extra little push that propels her from indie to superstar. |

Grant gets serious points for buying glowsticks and plastic musical instruments to throw into the crowd. She loses some points because a plastic tambourine nearly hit me in the head while I was writing this in my notepad. She needs to learn how to throw up, as opposed to out. Bonus marks for doing a bang-on Julie Doiron impersonation. |

Grant's music speaks for itself. She's comfortable playing the role of folk artist, country troubadour, or rock and roll star. She can quite obviously hold her own against any of this country's great songstresses and it's probably only a matter of time before she's a household name. |

There's a point every kid reaches in high school, where they confront their parents and demand the freedom to buy their own clothes, lest they be forever outside the cool group. The sparkly butterfly on Grant's dress looked a little too "My mom got this at Wal-Mart."
