ATTENTION! DAMN is calling on you, our faithful visitors, to settle a long-standing and, quite frankly, violent debate that has the entire Chart office up in arms. The question we would like you to answer is: do those cute new Volkswagen Beetles that over-privileged teenage girls and midlife crisis-suffering men drive qualify for the much-loved "Punchbuggy" game? The reason why we ask is that Mike McCann is getting sick and tired of Aaron Brophy punching him when they pass one on the road. Please settle this once and for all, so that McCann can thump Brophy for every time he has been erroneously smacked, or so Broph can smugly justify his keen eyes and quick fists. The poll will run for the next week...the majority decision (unless it's really, REALLY close) will be binding and irrefutable. To register your opinion, send the friendly and impartial Mike an e-mail at mikem@chartnet.com. Thanks, everyone!

Take a look at some awesome photos and a concert review of the November 5 Depeche Mode concert in Toronto! Chart was there to show and tell you all about it...

If you're in a band and have a website you want listed in ChartAttack, go HERE and fill out the form. You've never seen anything like this...we promise!

TODAY'S TOP 4 HEADLINES:

GEOFF LLOYD LEAVES MATTHEW GOOD BAND

DAMN has learned that Matthew Good Band bassist Geoff Lloyd has left the group. Lloyd says It was an amicable parting, and even suggests that a new bass player might be good for the band. "I think I just grew out of it," says Lloyd, who started as a guitar tech for the MGB and then spent four years playing bass for them. "I wanted to explore other parts of my life. I don't think I was cut out to do all the constant touring. I'm not a songwriter; I just go in and play the parts, so I don't think I was getting any creative satisfaction out of it, and it just kind of took its toll after awhile." No word yet on a replacement, but DAMN will keep everyone posted. You can read about both Matthew and Geoff in the next issue of Chart.

MARILYN MANSON TO SIGN AUTOGRAPHS AT HMV 333

Universal Music have confirmed that Marilyn Manson and his band will be signing autographs from 5:30pm to 7:00pm Tuesday, November 17. The session will take place at the HMV Superstore in Toronto (333 Yonge Street), and will follow a press conference that Manson has called for 5:00pm. Manson plays Mississauga's Arrow Hall the next day, as part of the Mechanical Animals North American tour. HMV have unveiled their new Ritual Sacrifice Club Card to mark the event...slaughter ten innocent housepets, and you'll get a free set of 100-sided dice! Just kidding.

SONIC UNYON CHRISTMAS PARTY DETAILS

With all their fifth birthday festivities successfully wrapped up, Sonic Unyon have turned their attention to the Yuletide season. The Sonic Unyon Christmas Party will take place December 18, beginning at 3:00pm. Things get underway at the Unyon store (22 Wilson Street, Hamilton, Ontario) with a performance from a band to be named later, and then the assembled gang (including members of various SU bands) will go caroling. Imagine if you will, roaming the streets of the Hammer warbling "Good King Wenceslaus" with the boys in Shallow, North Dakota!

Once the caroling is over, the party shifts to the Transit Workers Union Hall, which is just next door to the Sonic Unyon store (26 Wilson Street). Doors open at 7:00pm, and the show starts at 8:00. This is both an all-ages and licensed event. Confirmed to play thus far are Mayor McCA, Chore and Tristan Psionic. A little birdy told DAMN to expect a few more names (like The New Grand and Shallow, ND) to be added within days. Incidentally, this gig will be the last for Tristan bassist April Fresh (ha ha), as she's leaving the band to take a swell gig in New York City. On a related note, April's final T.O. show is a freebie next Tuesday (November 17) as part of the Edge 102/Horseshoe Tavern Nu Music night 5th Anniversary party. Also playing are Matt Murphy's Flashing Lights and ex-Inbreds bassist Mike O'Neill.

Tickets go on sale December 1 at the Unyon store, Dr. Disc in Hamilton and Rotate This in Toronto. They are $6.00 in advance or $5.00 at the Unyon store with the donation of a non-perishable food item. They will be $8.00 at the door, or $6.00 with a food donation. All proceeds from the entire event will be given to the Good Shepherd. The gang at Sonic Unyon asked DAMN to stress that due to simple logisitcs, there will not be a Toronto Christmas event this year; if you want a piece of the action, Hamilton's the only place to be this year.

CINDERELLA BASSIST IN SERIOUS ACCIDENT

Eric Brittingham, bassist with 80's hair-farmers Cinderella was in a terrible car accident last Saturday (November 7). Brittingham's truck went off the road in Toledo, Ohio, flipping over and shearing two telephone poles clean. According to Cinderella's website, Eric was found on the floor of the truck's passenger side, and was taken to hospital. He has been upgraded from critical to serious condition after doctors determined he has no internal injuries or head trauma, but is still being kept in the intensive care wing. The website also reports Eric's injuries include a broken nose and jaw, many cuts on his face and "a billion bruises." As he recuperates from the crash that wrote his truck off, Cinderella are still on the road with a temp bassist. Must be a tight bunch, huh?

U2 LAUNCH KITCHEN RECORDINGS DANCE LABEL

With a little help from an old friend and a lot of guidance from Howie B., U2 have created a dance label called Kitchen Recordings. The label, which joins Mother Records in the Irish supergroup's music business portfolio, launched yesterday in Dublin. The opening party was held at a club called The Kitchen (another U2 property) in The Clarence Hotel. There were live sets from initial signings Basic and Rob Rowland alongside lots of schmoozing and an appearance by Bono and The Edge. The label's first release will be Ground Zero, the debut album from techno artist Rowland.

Reggie Manuel, a longtime pal of U2 will be running the label, and Howie B, who has collaborated with the band on numerous projects, will be offering advice (he runs his own Pussyfoot label). U2 plan to keep their distance from the label's day-to-day operation. The Edge told NME.com "We're gonna listen to tapes and be involved, but really it's his (Manuel's) baby." Bono offered his two cents on the matter, too. "I'm not sure Irish people can dance, except for The Edge that is, who is our own funky chicken."

Mike McCann is a DJ, writer and music fanatic who climbed the ladder from college radio to a major label weasel, and now has come to rest happily at Chart. He loves Depeche Mode, The Wonder Stuff, Monty Python, calamari, and he's awfully fond of the Stretcha, too. He's also been known to mangle great songs live with understanding bands who keep letting him get up to sing 'em...stupid bastards.

Quote of the Week

"If we have a mind that is already fragmented and he's listening to violent, kill-your-mother, anti-authority music, what is that going to do to his mind?"

-- Ramon Jacquez, suggesting that Marilyn Manson's music could be the tripwire that turns good kids bad...or that he wants to kill his mom and is working on an alibi.
