If you're in a band and have a website you want listed in ChartAttack, go HERE and fill out the form. You've never seen anything like this...we promise!
TODAY'S TOP 4 HEADLINES:
As D.A.M.N. reported just after after EDGEfest, Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong and his wife Adrienne were expecting this month. After a few weeks of laying low, the couple recently announced that a healthy baby boy arrived on September 12 in Berkeley, California. Jacob Danger Armstrong (cute in an Austin Powers-kinda way, huh?) weighed in at 8 pounds, 15 ounces...now there's a playmate for Joey, the Armstrong's three-year-old son. Congratulations to Billie Joe and Adrienne!
Vancouver's 54-40 have played a few select shows across Canada since the summertime release of their newest album Since When, but now the band plan to hunker down and become road warriors before the snow flies. They've got something special planned for their fans, though, and D.A.M.N. is pleased to tell you all about it!
For the duration of their tour, 54-40 are asking that supporters of the band submit requests to the official band website, and those requests will be used to determine the set list in each city. If you head to www.5440.com/setlist.html, there's a great entry form online where you can check off as many of your favourites as you want from almost 100 original 54-40 tunes! Entrants can submit their picks for a custom-made setlist only three times...any further submissions will be discarded, so make your votes count!
As an added bonus, Neil, Phil, Brad and Matt are planning to hold some "Forty-Oke" moments during the tour as well, where lucky audience members will be pulled from their seats and given the chance to sing with 54-40! Speaking as someone who has been pulled onstage to sing with bands, this a very brave and selfless move the guys are making...stay tuned for more details, and be sure to bookmark 54-40's great website! (Don't forget about the August 1998 Chart cover story on the band...you can order your copy right here online!)
Sad news today as Sonicnet reports composer/lyricist Jeff Moss, the man who wrote many of the classic songs featured on Sesame Street, died Friday September 25. Moss had been fighting colon cancer, and passed away due to complications arising from his illness. The 56-year-old was best known for songs like "Rubber Duckie" and "The People In Your Neighbourhood", and took home 15 Emmy Awards for his work with varying productions for the Children's Television Network. Moss also scored four Grammy Awards for various Sesame Street records, and an Academy Award nomination for the music and lyrics of the feature film The Muppets Take Manhattan. Whether they realize it or not, Jeff Moss had a profound impact on millions of kids who grew up with his songs...D.A.M.N. included.
Australian teen trio Silverchair are in the City of Angels putting the finishing touches on their forthcoming third album, which remains untitled at press time. Production was handled by Nick Launay, the man behind key releases from fellow Aussie juggernauts INXS and Midnight Oil. The album is due in the first quarter of 1999, according to Sony Music (the band are signed to Epic Records) and Allstar, and is the follow-up to the commercially successful 1997 album Freak Show. Sessions for the album took place earlier this year in both Sydney and the band's hometown of Newcastle. For those of you who can't wait to hear new stuff from the lads, you may want to track down an import copy of the soundtrack to an Australian film called Head On. Silverchair have contributed a remixed version of their hit "Freak" to the OST, which is available on Murmur Records. Happy hunting, and more Silverchair news will appear here as D.A.M.N. gets it.

"I know...I'm not good at angst records. I know I can make dumb-ass dance music that makes people smile, so that's what I'm doing. As far as being dumb goes, I'm a genius...I'm making dumb deep."
--Fatboy Slim, aka Norman Cook talks about the science behind making coherent dance music.
