Oooh, Eddie, you're a sneaky bugger! Pearl Jam made a surprise performance at the Showbox, a Seattle nightclub Saturday night. The 23 song set was filled with music both old and new, including Not For You, Even Flow, Alive, Dissident and Sometimes. It'll be the last small room they see for awhile, as the group starts it's big venue tour tonight at Seattle's Key Arena. She says that she was too pushy in trying to get Kurt to quit drugs, and at the point when he was in rehab, she got mad at him for dropping their baby Frances while under the influence. "I said, 'You dropped the baby, you dropped her on her head.' She was wearing a big hooded coat and he didn't hurt her. I didn't need to tell him that. I think that's a major reason for his suicide." NEW GOLDEN GIRL No, no, no. It's not what you think. Betty White and company packed it in a long time ago. Where YOU been?? We're talking about the Golden Palaminos here; Anton Fier's most brilliant band. Through the years, the project has ranged from a This Mortal Coil type of multi-artist collaborative effort to a fine-tuned, silky-smooth and relatively consistant line-up, featuring Fier, Bootsy Collins, Bill Laswell and others, with Lori Carson up front on vocals. It's been two years since their brilliant and sexy release Pure and, thankfully, their next album is finally ready to show itself. Entitled Dead Inside, the disc features a relatively unknown vocalist named Nicole Blackman, who has previously collaborated with the likes of Laswell and KMFDM. SARAH'S SHOW A SUCCESS After a long, dry summer, festival-wise, Vancouver finally got to spend a day outdoors listening to a day full of great music. Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair made it's debut in her hometown last Saturday, featuring seven hours of diverse women vocalists. Paula Cole, Michelle MacAdorey (ex- Crash Vegas), Lisa Loeb, Emmylou Harris and McLachlan herself drew 7,500 fans into their fold. McLachlan explained during her set that Lilith was the woman, according to legend, who preceeded Eve as Adam's partner and didn't get to stick around because, when it came time to procreate, she announced to Adam "I will not lie beneath you." Sarah also made it clear that the Lilith festival is an idea that she intends to continue to keep alive and in operation next summer. BOB POLLARD: GUIDED BY VOICES FRONTMAN OR FICKLE BITCH? Just kiddin', Bob. Now as those of you who have seen a Guided By Voices show already know, frontguy Bob Pollard does indeed like a drink...or two...or ten. So when he comes out with a kooky comment or two, sometimes he catches the world a little off-guard. So when he announced at a show in Ohio last week that it would be the last GBV live performance, some panicked. But not the record company, who explain that everything appears to be going as planned in the GBV camp, that Bob and the boys are working on their next album and that they will be touring, but not until next year. Addicted To Noise FUCK, FUCK, FUCK, FUCK, FUCK!! Do you ever notice that most on-line news places edit out their swears? Not here. Yours truly is absolutely devastated and saddened by the fact that Portland Oregon trio Thirty Ought Six have broken up. This incredibly powerful group won my vote for the best album of 1995, with the release of their Mute Records disc, Hagseed. Before the band's discs go the way of the delete bin, I would strongly -- nay adamently -- urge any and all who are fans of the emotional and musical intensity of Husker Du, Quicksand and/or Sunny Day Real Estate to grab a copy of their latest album or inquire about their equally stellar debut, Bosozuku, by e-mailing Candyass Records Got some news? Then e-mail me, dammit! denise@mindlink.net
