MORE ECONOLINE CRUSH TOURING NEWS

As reported last week, Econoline Crush are heading out on an extensive tour of Canada in the next few months. Some more dates have been added to that tour, including stops in Ottawa, Kitchener, London. In addition, the Toronto date has been changed to September 26, and a few new bands are joining the tour for the Ontario gigs. The schedule now looks like this (new dates in BOLD):

September 10 Calgary, AB The Palace

September 11 Calgary, AB University of Calgary

September 12 Edmonton, AB University of Alberta

September 14 Saskatoon, SK University of Saskatchewan

September 15 Regina, SK University of Regina

September 16 Winnipeg, MB University of Manitoba

September 18 Thunder Bay, ON Lakehead University

September 19 Sault Ste. Marie, ON Club Princess

September 23 London, ON The Drink

September 24 Kitchener, ON The Lyric

September 26 Toronto, ON The Warehouse

October 1 Ottawa, ON Barrymore's

The Ottawa show will be opened by Stabbing Westward, with whom Econoline Crush toured America after EDGEfest. treble charger have been added to both the Kitchener and Toronto shows. Both Joydrop and B.T.K. remain on the tour, but there are select shows (Calgary, London, Kitchener, Ottawa) where they will not appear. B.T.K. are also off the Toronto show. Tickets for all Ontario shows are on sale this Friday at 10:00am, except Toronto, which will be available as of tomorrow from all the usual outlets.

KORN DEBUTS AT #1 IN CANADA AND U.S.

To the surprise of only a few non-believers, Korn's Follow The Leader exploded into the top spot on both the Canadian and American retail charts this week. The album was released August 18, and racked up close to 300,000 total units sold in North America. The U.S. tally was 268,480 copies, with Canada clocking 24,974 (just under the general 10% rule - - based on population, albums in Canada should sell about one tenth of the numbers in the U.S. if it's to be judged equally successful). This places Korn in high demand just as the band plan to visit Toronto this weekend for a press conference/parade/autograph session/"Korn" roast. Congrats to Korn, who are featured in the September issue of Chart - - in stores next week!

CMJ CANADIAN SHOWCASE IN THE WORKS

The CMJ Music Marathon is gearing up for a four day run in New York City. Running from November 4 -7, over one thousand bands will play, films will be screened and futures will be made. There is a contingent of Canadian bands heading down this year (as always), and plans are afoot to organize a showcase. Any bands interested in learning more should contact Evelyn Cream at (416) 691-6788. The application deadline is September 1, and Evelyn can also help you apply to FACTOR for some money to help finance the trip to NYC (up to $4,000, apparently). Thanks to Catonia Whalen at Universal Music Canada for passing word onto D.A.M.N. about Evelyn's showcase plans!

NEW BOO RADLEYS ALBUM THIS FALL

Highly under-rated British bandBoo Radleys are set to release their sixth album Kingsize this October. Famous for writing classic, straightforward pop songs then fucking with them ever-so-slightly before their release, the Boos have piled up a substantial back-catalog of hits like "Lazarus", "Wishing I Was Skinny", "Reaching Out From Here", "Barney And Me", "Does This Hurt?", "Wake Up Boo!", "It's Lulu", "C'mon Kids", "Ride The Tiger" and many others. Kigsize's first single "Free Huey" will be in U.K. stores October 5, with the album arriving two weeks after that. The tracklisting is:

Blueroom In Archway / The Old Newsstand In Hamilton Square / Free Huey / Monuments For A Dead Century / Heaven's At The Bottom Of This Glass / Kingsize / High As Monkeys / Eurostar / Adieu Clo Clo / Jimmy Webb Is God / She Is Everywhere / Comb Your Hair / Song From The Blueroom / The Future Is Now

D.A.M.N. will lay early odds on Kingsize, PJ Harvey's Is This Desire? and the Manic Street Preachers' This Is My Truth Show Me Yours as contenders for next year's Mercury Music Prize. So there.
