THE CURE WANT TO BE A BIT MORE HAPPY
Even though they've been miserable, brooding, strange, darkly-comic sod for the last 20 years, The Cure's Robert Smith is adamant (or is that Adam Ant?) that he wants to shake their 'doom and gloom image'. "There have been five different C ures -- the band has changed with my outlook," Smith said. "Unfortunately, we seem to be the only band in the world that's not allowed to be whatever we want. This 'doom and gloom' label is still put on us." (Source: Jam!)
CHILI PEPPERS BREAK UP
The Red Hot Chili Peppers have broken up. It's true. Says drummer Chad Smith: "It's not just an ugly rumor. The Chili Peppers are a great band and I'm very lucky to have been a part of it, but I think we should go out on a high note and not flog a dead horse. "It's kind of a relief that the years of hell are finally over and I can get on with real life, instead of being a spoiled kid living in a bubble in a sea of retarded sexuality (Isn't that from This is Spinal Tap? Hmmm... - Simon). The fun had gone and it was becoming more of a job." (Source: Jam!)
BOB DOLE: PAIN IN THE ASS
Bob "knownothingnosepokingattentionstarvedmegalomaniacinthisreportersopinion" Dole has once again commented on something he knows nothing about. In some wanky radio show that he and his leather-shorts-wearing cohorts run, he said that people "are as bot hered as I am by the fact that since President Clinton took office, the monthly use of illicit drugs has increased by an average of 79 percent... for students in the 8th to 12th grades." This, apparently, is the music industry's fault for "glamourizing" drugs.
